Culebra by Private Yacht

Culebrita island, Culebra, Puerto Rico

Culebra is the island people fly to Puerto Rico for. Most visitors wait in the ferry line in Ceiba. You leave from Fajardo on your own private yacht, set your own schedule and spend the day where the water is clearest.

What a Culebra Day Looks Like

  • Morning: depart Safe Harbor Marina Puerto del Rey. The run east takes about 1 hour or slightly longer each way.
  • Flamenco Beach and Culebrita: visit the world-famous, world-ranked beaches of Flamenco Beach and Culebrita. Swim in, or stay on board.
  • Snorkeling: calm, reef-lined coves where sea turtles are a regular sight.
  • Afternoon: one more swim, then an easy cruise home.

Which Yacht for Culebra?

Culebra is a 6 to 8 hour day, and our 47' Intrepid is the one we recommend. Four outboard engines and a Seakeeper stabilizer make the crossing fast and smooth, it can reach shorelines in 3 to 4 feet of water, and it still has an air-conditioned indoor cabin, bathroom and indoor comforts. The larger yachts can make the trip, but they take much longer to unpack and pack at each stop, which eats into your time to relax and enjoy the day.

Yacht Guests Culebra add-on

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the boat ride to Culebra?

About 1 hour or slightly longer each way from Fajardo.

How many hours should I book?

6 to 8 hours, so you get real time at the beach.

Can we go ashore at Flamenco Beach?

Yes, guests can swim in from the anchorage. Bring water shoes and a dry bag.

Is the crossing rough?

It is open water, so it can be choppier than Icacos. We check the forecast and will suggest Icacos if conditions are not good.

Can we combine Culebra with other stops?

We usually only recommend this on the 47' Intrepid. It is our most versatile cruiser and our top pick for Culebra thanks to its speed, Seakeeper upgrade and four outboard engines, while still offering an AC cabin, bathroom and indoor comforts. The larger yachts take a lot of time to unpack and pack at each stop, which can eat up too much of your day.
